SETUP GUIDE
Connect supported website and app events to Google Analytics - with or without Google Tag Manager.
| AUDIENCE | SETUP TIME |
| Studio owners and administrators | Around 10-15 minutes |
Overview
The CodexFit Google Analytics 4 (GA4) integration sends supported events from CodexFit website components directly to your GA4 property. If you use a CodexFit app, you can also enable app tracking.
For most studios, the direct connection is the simplest option because it removes the need to set up Google Tag Manager. Studios with an established Tag Manager configuration can continue to use it instead.
| Before you begin: The integration currently needs to be enabled for your CodexFit account. If you cannot see the Analytics setup screen, contact your CodexFit Account Manager. |
What you will need
- A Google Analytics 4 property. A standard GA4 account can be created at no charge.
- Editor access to the relevant GA4 property so you can view or create the required stream details.
- A web data stream for your studio website.
- Access to your domain's DNS settings only if you choose optional first-party tracking.
- A decision on whether to track your website, your CodexFit app, or both.
Choose your connection method
| Method | Best for | What to know |
| Direct to GA4 | Most studios and teams that want a guided, low-maintenance setup. | CodexFit sends supported events to GA4 without requiring Google Tag Manager. |
| Your own Google Tag Manager | Studios that already have an agency or technical team managing custom analytics. | CodexFit continues to expose data-layer events. Your Tag Manager setup must listen for those events and forward them to GA4. |
Set up the integration
- Ask CodexFit to enable Analytics. Contact your Account Manager. Once enabled, the Analytics setup screen will appear in your CodexFit admin.
- Open the Analytics setup screen. The guided wizard will take you through each setting and explain what is required.
- Choose where you want to track activity. Enable Website, App, or both. Only enable App if your studio uses a CodexFit app.
- Choose how to connect. Select Direct to Google Analytics 4 for the simplest setup, or choose your existing Google Tag Manager configuration if it is already managed for you.
- Add your GA4 details. Sign in to Google Analytics and select the correct account and property. In Admin, open Data streams and choose the relevant stream. Copy the Measurement ID, which normally begins with G-, and paste it into the field shown in CodexFit.
| If the wizard requests an API secret: In the same GA4 data stream, open Measurement Protocol API secrets, select Create, give the secret a recognisable name such as CodexFit, then copy the Secret value into CodexFit. Treat this value as confidential. |
- Choose standard or first-party tracking. Standard tracking sends events to Google's analytics domain and works without any DNS changes. First-party tracking is optional and routes events through a subdomain of your own website before forwarding them to Google. This may improve measurement reliability where tools block requests made directly to Google domains.
- Complete any optional DNS changes. If you selected first-party tracking, copy the DNS records shown by the wizard and add them through your domain provider. If you do not want to make DNS changes, continue with standard tracking instead; the integration will still work.
- Test the connection. Select Send test event in CodexFit. In GA4, open DebugView for the relevant property and confirm that the test event arrives. This checks that CodexFit can send data to the selected GA4 property.
- Turn the integration on and save. Enable the integration, select Save, and your chosen CodexFit channels will begin sending supported events. After setup, you can return to the Analytics settings at any time without repeating the wizard.
What the integration tracks
The integration forwards supported events generated by CodexFit's front-end components. When app tracking is enabled, the same supported event types can also be sent from the app.
| Website and app reporting: How website and app activity is grouped or separated in GA4 depends on the data streams and reporting configuration used. If separate channel reporting is essential, confirm the recommended GA4 setup with your CodexFit Account Manager before going live. |
Check that data is arriving
After the test succeeds, use these GA4 views to check collection:
- DebugView: useful during setup for confirming test and debug events.
- Realtime: useful for checking recent website or app activity. Standard reporting can take longer to populate.
Google notes that new data collection can take up to 30 minutes to begin appearing in Realtime. A short delay does not always indicate a failed connection.
Troubleshooting
The Analytics screen is missing: Ask your CodexFit Account Manager to enable the integration for your account.
The test event does not appear: Check that you selected the intended GA4 account, property and data stream, then confirm the Measurement ID and any requested secret were copied correctly.
The test works, but normal events do not appear: Confirm that the integration is switched on, your chosen Website/App toggles are enabled, and the settings were saved.
First-party tracking is not validating: Check that every DNS record shown in the wizard was added exactly as provided. DNS updates can also take time to propagate.
You use Google Tag Manager: Make sure your GTM configuration is listening for the CodexFit data-layer events and forwarding them to GA4. Selecting this route alone does not configure GA4 tags for you.
