Gift cards let customers buy credit for a friend, or let you give credit to a customer yourself. This guide shows how to set up the gift cards you sell, give one to a customer, and keep track of what's been spent.
Set up the gift cards you sell
Gift cards are sold as gift card products. Each product has one or more variants, and each variant is a price (for example £10, £25 or £50).
- Go to Business Settings and open Gift Card Products.
- Click New gift card product, or Edit on an existing one.
- On the Details tab, fill in the product (see the table below).
- Open the Variants tab and add a price for each amount you want to offer. Use the Is visible switch to show or hide an amount.
- Click Save changes.

How customers give and redeem a gift card
Once a customer has bought a gift card, they can give it to the person it is for in either of two ways:
- Forward the gift card email to them.
- Copy the 16-digit code onto a card to hand over.
The person receiving it then spends the gift card at checkout to redeem it.
Give a gift card to a customer
You can issue a gift card straight to a customer's account, for example as a thank-you or an apology.
- Go to Customers.
- Click the three dots at the end of the customer's row and choose Issue Gift Card.
- Enter the Gift card value.
- Optionally set an Expiry: type a number and choose minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years.
- Click Issue Gift Card.
See and manage your gift cards
Go to Gift Cards in the left-hand menu. The list shows every gift card with:
- Code: only the last four characters are shown.
- Purchased By: who bought or was given it.
- Initial Balance and Current Balance.
- Expires: the expiry date, if there is one.
- Status: usable (it has balance left), empty (it's all been spent) or expired.
Click a gift card to open it. From there you can:
- History: see every change to the balance. The original purchase is listed first, then each time it was used for a payment, with the amount taken off.
- Update Expiry: change when the gift card expires.
- Send Reminder: send the customer a reminder about their gift card.
- Delete: remove the gift card.
Tip: To see how much gift card value is outstanding, run the Gift Cards: Value report. See Sales and payments reports.
